Name and Purpose:
China Association of Surfactant Soap and Detergent
Industry was established in September, 1983. The purposes of CASSDI are to
serve the enterprises, to promote the development and to protect the legal
rights of the enterprises in this industrial sector. Commissioned by the
Government, it also undertakes part of the administration activities of
this industrial sector. With the instructions from the governmental
agencies and the supports from the enterprises, CASSDI acts as a bridge
between the Government and the enterprises as well as the links among the
enterprises.
Organization:
Members' representative assembly is the highest authority body of
CASSDI. At the moment, CASSDI possesses 358 members in total, in which 280
members are manufacturing enterprises while the remaining are institutes
for scientific research, engineering design consultation and
education.
Under CASSDI, there are three speciality committees, namely
the Synthetic Detergent Speciality Committee, the Soap Speciality
Committee and the Surfactant Speciality Committee.In addition, a Science
and Technology Committee , a Training Center, a Raw Material Co-ordination
Division and a Statistics Information Center.
CASSDI publishes
magazines , namely "China Surfactant Soap and Detergent Industry", "News
Letter of China Surfactant Soap and detergent Industry" and " Surfactant
Industry".

Overall Situation about the Industrial
Sector:
In China ,this industrial sector is also
customarily called as cleaning product industry or washing product
industry. The main product varieties can be classified into two big
categories, namely the soaps( laundry soap and toilet soap) and the
synthetic detergents .However, the main raw materials, builders, and
auxiliaries used in the synthetic detergents such as surfactants, linear
alkylbenzene, detergent alcohol, sodium tripolyphosphate, carboxymethyl
cellulose, enzymes for detergents, optical brighteners, as well as
products closely related with the soap industry such as glycerine , fatty
acid, and hydrogenated oils are also included in this industry
sector.
Since the establishment of the new China, this industrial
sector developed quite rapidly. The soap manufacturing industry changed
from small capacity to big capacity, while the synthetic detergent
production started from a null basis. Currently, the product varieties are
rather complete and substantially satisfied the demands of various
applications of consumers of different levels .In 1996 , total output of
synthetic detergent achieved 2,620,000 tonnes while total output of
laundry and toilet soap achieved 730,000 tonnes . The overall production
of cleaning products is the second biggest world-wide. The total annual
export value of synthetic detergent, soap and sodium tripolyphosphate has
been increasing year by year and achieved USD 80 millions in 1996. An
industrial sector concerning surfactant, synthetic detergent and soap
which composed of production enterprises as the main body and incorporated
with research and educational institutes has been formed .It plays and
important role in China's light industry as well as in the national
economy. |
