Established in 1988,
China Battery Industry Association is a sectoral management organization
subordinate to China National Council of Light Industry. In 1988 when the state organs were reformed, the State Council authorized China National Council of Light Industry to administer the light industries nationwide, including the battery industry. China Battery Industry Association undertakes the concrete management and coordination tasks of the Chinese battery industry. China Battery Industry Association has now 176 members, including 132 units of battery factories with certain scale, 12 units of raw material factories, 20 units of battery equipment and spare parts and accessories factories, 8 units of universities and colleges and 4 units of scientific research institutes. Under the Association there are 4 specialized committees as follows: Science & Technology Committee, Technology Consultative Committee, Specialized Committee of Battery Machinery & Equipment & Spare Parts & Accessories, and Specialized Committee of Battery Carbon Rod. The Storage Battery Specialized Branch is to be set up in 1997, to meet with the developing demand from the Chinese battery industry. |

China battery industry develops rapidly during reform and opening-up. In 1995, the total battery output of the whole nation topped 10 billion units, making up one-third of the world total battery output. China is the biggest battery-producing country in the world. With the leading products of conventional Zn-Mn battery and alkaline Zn-Mn battery, China also produces nickle-cadmium battery, nickle-metal-hydride battery, lithium battery, rechargeable alkaline manganese battery, silver-oxide-mangnese button cell, zinc-air battery as well as lead-acid storage battery etc., with 14 series and 250 varieties, having formed an integrated industrial system. During the Ninth "Five-Year Plan" period, the focal points of development of the Chinese battery industry are to adjust the product infrastructure to be adjusted to the high-technical,high value-added product infrastructure; to the direction of alkaline Zn-Mn battery for the primary batteries; to the direction of nickle-metal-hydride battery,lithium-ion battery for the secondary batteries; to the direction of all-tight, maintenance-free lead-acid storage battery for the lead-acid batteries; and based on this, to the direction of power battery used for cars and motorized bicycles; working hard for a big development of the Chinese battery industry through the adjustment of the product infrastructure during the Ninth "Five-Year Plan" period. | |
